Celebration of
The Day of the Dead
A reception for the opening of the art exhibit "El Dia de los Muertos” (The Day of the Dead) will be at Casa de Arte, 141 Elmwood Ave. on Wednesday, November 2nd. from 2 to 6 pm. This is our most popular exhibit and will feature installations, sculptures and mixed media works from Mexican and local artists, to include Mara Odette and Rick Williams.
El Dia de los Muertos is a national holiday in Mexico. The Day of the Dead features a blend of Mexican indigenous traditions with European Catholic influences and is first and foremost about honoring ancestors. During the reception, attendees will be invited to bring “ofrendas” (offerings) such as meaningful mementos or favorite foods and drinks of the dearly departed one. Also, items such as painted skulls will be available to place on altars to honor the loved one.
